Why should it cost so much to be disappointed?
Everyone says that's just how it's done. We don't buy it. We build the better version, for the love of building it, and we teach you how it works.
What we believe
Curious first. Then we build.
Curious
We ask why it's done that way, and whether it has to be. Most of the time it doesn't.
Economical
Good things shouldn't cost a fortune. The first thing we built is free.
Good for the world
If there's a version that's kinder to people and the planet, that's the one we make.
The first thing we built
SimpleBrain
A notes app that doesn't make you set anything up. Type a thought, file it, link your notes together and watch how they connect.
It's built to be the free alternative to Roam, Obsidian and Notion. No account. Your notes are plain files in a folder you own.
Read along
Our notes, as we take them
We read a lot, using the photoreading method: skim the whole book first, then write down what we actually want from it.
Those notes live in SimpleBrain, and they show up here the moment we save them.
Where the name comes from
Sebayt is an old Egyptian word, sbꜣyt. It means teachings: wisdom handed from a teacher to a student, so the next person doesn't start from zero. Labs is the other half. We make things.
